Asian Lounge Restaurant

Transforming a Terrace into a Modern VIP Space.

The main idea of the design was to turn an unused terrace and connect it to the existing restaurant, as well as renovating some parts of the restaurant, so for the VIP section a minimalistic design with a modern touch was chosen to be in harmony with the existing restaurant.
Due to the age of the hotel building, many construction restrictions were faced. To convert the terrace into a dynamic VIP section a light-weight yet functional structure needed to be designed, built and connected to the existing building. Tensile structure with its light-weight, easy-to-install, unique form, daylight and ability to maintain the outdoor feeling was the best option, so a light-weight 6.5-m high double-conical tensile ceiling was designed to create a spacious area.
The surrounding body of the VIP section, tensile roof and many interior details are all designed and built by the architect and coworkers, such as flooring, windows, lights, furniture and counter.
For the floor, a combination of stone and short loop carpet (for easy cleaning) was chosen. As shown above, the walking areas are covered with carpet to reduce the noise and under the tables is covered with stone to be cleaned easily. For installing these two different materials a very precise bedding was required for the carpet and stone to be level.
One of the strong points of the design is the mechanical windows with a very modern touch, specifically designed, engineered and costumed for the restaurant.
The restaurant is located on the 13th floor, so it has a great panorama view of Tehran. The windows’ height was determined to be the same as around couches so the costumers can enjoy the view while sitting. The windows needed to opened and closed easily and be fully watertight.
The designed windows have an exposed gear mechanism that can be manually but easily opened and closed, they are fully watertight and airtight and most importantly the can be tilted open in any angle and be secured in that desired angle.
